JOB DESCRIPTION - Data System Architect - Open Mission Systems

NASA is returning to the Moon, using public-private partnerships, to design and build robotic and human landing systems. We seek an experienced, hands on software architect to design and build a ground data system architecture for robotic lunar landers and rovers, at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley. This architecture will enable end-to-end command and data flow to display data in NASA’s Open Mission Control Technologies (Open MCT) software. The resulting open source system will be used across multiple missions in and out of NASA, both public and private.

Open MCT is a next-generation mission control framework for operation of spacecraft missions. It is developed at NASA's Ames Research Center in collaboration with theJet Propulsion Laboratory, and is being used by NASA for data analysis of spacecraft missions. Open MCT is an open source project with a community of users and developers both within and outside of NASA. This will be the data visualization tool. You will architect the end-to-end architecture. We are looking for a self-motivated software architect who is able to work with a multidisciplinary team of software developers, user interface designers and spacecraft design and operations teams. If you love space, that’s even better. This role is based at Ames Research Center, but may require occasional travel to support users at other NASA centers around the United States.
