JOB DESCRIPTION


Support the NASA JSC Aircraft Operations Division (AOD) at Ellington Field. AOD currently manages 5 types of manned fixed-wing aircraft including T-38 Astronaut Trainer Jets, WB-57 High Altitude Research Aircraft, Gulfstream III, GulfStream V, Supper Guppy Transport and several smaller Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
 

REQUIREMENTS
 

Education: B.S. Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
Year(s) of Experience: 5 - 10 yrs (preferably in aircraft modifications)

Required Skills and Traits

 
  • Strong Proficiency in Pro Engineer / Creo (critical requirement)
  • Proficiency in AutoCad
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Proficient in producing drawings to ANSI standards (critical requirement)
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of engineering principles, repair and fabrication practices, aviation hardware, and general aircraft maintenance operations
  • Hands-on experience with airframe structures
  • Fluency in aircraft industry standards for fasteners and materials
  • Ability to convey technical concepts during design review meetings
  • Must be a self-starter who is adaptable and highly motivated (critical requirement)
  • Must work well with a team
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability and willingness to travel, both foreign and domestic
  • Ability to maneuver around airplanes (e.g., climb stairs, get on work stands, man lifts) and in confined areas (e.g., aircraft interiors, cargo compartments)

Desired Skills and Traits
 
  • Experience with aircraft riveted sheetmetal construction a plus
  • Experience with aircraft structural repairs a plus
  • Ability to perform basic structural analyses a plus
  • Knowledge of aircraft design concepts, industry design standards, and FAA regulations a plus
  • Experience with FAA Supplemental Type Certification (STC) modifications a plus
  • Experience working with the FAA and Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs) a plus
