JOB DESCRIPTION

You will work on site at NASA Ames Research Center, in the Aviation Systems Division’s UAS Traffic Management (UTM) team. UTM has been under development for 3+ years and is one of the most publicly visible R&D projects at NASA Ames Research Center. The UTM project addresses air traffic management for small UAS flying below 400 ft above ground level. A major goal of this prototype project is to provide a safe flight environment for small UAS by allowing only those flight plans that do not pose a hazard to other, existing UAS flight plans in this airspace. The UTM project has numerous collaborators from government agencies, vendors of UAS and UAS-based services, and universities pursuing related research. UTM technology transfer is underway to the FAA.

On this project you will work directly with NASA and contractor researchers and developers to provide technical communications and support for NASA’s collaborations with the FAA, NASA partners, and other organizations in the UTM ecosphere. This work will include reviewing test plans, performing data analysis, as well as supporting submission, management and publication of research papers documenting UTM R&D.
