JOB DESCRIPTION
Perform System Safety Engineering assessments and analyses of Space Station Systems and Payload flown on Soyuz, Progress, US Commercial or International Partner (IP) vehicles in order to:
- Identify and quantify risk;
- Assure compliance with NASA safety requirements;
- Provide detailed reports and recommendations for mitigation strategies;
- Prepare and present technical presentations;
- Participate in Safety Panel Reviews
- Review flight documents, operational scenarios, and subsequent changes for safety impact;
- Participate in associated meetings,
- Provide real-time and post-flight engineering support for flight anomaly investigations;
- Work with customers - NASA, Space Station Contractors, International Partners and Payload Providers.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: BS Degree in Aerospace Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree may be considered depending on experience)
Year(s) of Experience: 10+ years
Required Skills and Traits:
- Excellent oral and above average written communications skills; Ability to develop excellent working relationships with customers, peers, and management;
- Experience using Microsoft Office to prepare detailed reports, presentations, and spreadsheets to convey technical information to customers and management
- Experience providing detailed technical briefings and progress reports to team members, customers and management
- 6 to 10 years related experience in any NASA Space Programs (e.g., Shuttle, Constellation, Space Station, Commercial Crew)
- Experience in requirements development, verification or assurance
- Experience in systems (or payloads) engineering or safety analysis
- Must be able to travel (~10%)
Other Desired Skills
- Minimum 8 years’ experience supporting the International Space Station in Safety, Operations, Training, Safety Panels and/or Flight Support.
- Familiarity with the NASA organization and with the International Space Station (ISS) subsystems and component
- NASA system flight safety review process experience to include participation in safety reviews
- Experience with direct participation in conducting and documenting space system safety review
- Knowledge of fault tree and risk management analysis
- An understanding of NASA ISS Safety Requirements, SSP 50021, as well as Payload Requirements SSP 51700
- An understanding of system safety hazards analysis process to include the generation of hazards analysis
