JOB DESCRIPTION: Systems Safety Reliability Engineer - HLS EVA Integration
Our Team has a rewarding position supporting the NASA Safety and Mission Assurance Engineering Contract (SMAEC III) at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX helping to return humans to the Moon and on to Mars, safely. In this role, you will support the Human Landing System (HLS) Program as an Extra-Vehicular Activity (EVA) Integration Safety & Reliability Engineer (SRE) and Crew Survival Analyst. Job Duties:
- Provide system safety and reliability subsystem engineering expertise in the area of EVA Systems Integration to the HLS Chief Safety Officer/ Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) Office
- Support real-time HLS flight operations on console as a member of the HLS S&MA Team, with focus on EVA Systems Integration, including the performance of real-time risk assessments to the crew and/ or lander vehicle
- Perform Crew Survival Analysis based upon the HLS Provider’s approach to designing and operating their lander vehicle
- Review and assess HLS Provider Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and Critical Items Lists for accuracy and completeness, including proposed controls, mitigations, and verifications
- Support development of Cross-Program Integrated Hazard Analyses involving HLS EVA support systems
- Review and assess HLS Provider compliance with safety requirements, including requirement verification approaches and variances
- Evaluate safety and mission assurance impacts of proposed engineering changes to HLS hardware and processes
- Assess HLS hardware Non-Conformances and Problem Reports to ensure that they address safety and reliability issues
- Perform system safety and reliability evaluations of proposed HLS mission flight rules and crew operational procedures prior to on-orbit use.
- Support program board, panel, and working group discussions to influence and evaluate systems engineering solutions to technical issues
- Participate in design milestones, by reviewing deliverables for system safety and reliability impacts
REQUIREMENTS: Systems Safety Reliability Engineer - HLS EVA Integration
Education: Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, Electrical, Reliability, or related field
Year(s) of Experience: 9+ years of related experience in engineering or operations for complex, safety critical systems (spacecraft, suits, aircraft, medical devices, nuclear, automotive functional safety, etc.).
Minimum Citizenship: U.S. Citizen

- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills
- Ability to work effectively across multiple organizations / stakeholders and within a teaming environment to get results
- Ability to work autonomously, with minimal management oversight, to prioritize work and accomplish tasks within tight schedule constraints
- Ability to visualize, articulate, and condense complex issues into concise, easily understood presentations
- Ability to generate high quality written technical reports and prepare and give high quality technical presentations for senior management and the customer
- Ability to perform some shift work/ on-call duty during periods of HLS mission operations
- Basic knowledge and use of personal computer with typical business software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory
- Must be able to travel (minimal) and work shifts periodically
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
Desired Skills and Traits
- S&MA experience with emphasis on system safety (hazard analysis) and reliability analyses to inform and influence design, test and verification activities, and planned flight operations
- Experience performing root cause analysis and development of fault trees
